#WeddingWednesday Groom to Groom: What Our First Year of Marriage Taught Me...

1

I use to be scared of the thought of marriage. Giving my all to one person, trusting them with everything, letting them in wholeheartedly. It was something that I thought would have to be earned by this fictional woman who I was destined to meet. As a teenager, falling in love was something too common, but when college arrived and I entered my pre-adulthood, falling in love was a disease. Never wanting to fall in love or show too much love was a lifestyle for me. That sent me on a journey of partying and women, until...

2

March 18, 2011 (two years removed from college graduation) was the day that I met my wife.....at the club! The most unlikely place to meet a life partner (in my eyes). I spotted her from across the room and drunkenly approached her to ask her name. This attempt had been done before with the same woman and I was told that I was too young. But this time, laced with liquid courage, I took another shot. After small talk, we exchanged numbers. There was no intent to marry right off the bat, but at this point in my life I'd told myself that every female needs to be screened for potential longevity.

Why did I marry her? Two reason: #1. Our similarities in religion, family values and biggest fears (hers-raising a child by herself; mine- dying without the chance to raise my own child.) Two: I asked myself, if my daughter was to grow up and be like her, would I be ok with that? The answer was yes. She had so many great qualities that her negatives weren't even an issue. We dated for a year and a half before I proposed. Why so quickly? My mother always told me that it only takes 4 seasons to learn someone. I interpreted that to mean that marriage is the journey of learning and loving someone.

I like my wife as a friend and I love her as a partner. I think liking someone is more important than loving them in some situations. Marriage is one of them. We do things that friends can do together and that makes our marriage stronger. Our marriage has not been a yellow brick road. A few things that I realize about our marriage that has helped it grow:

#1. We don't expose our problems to others. We keep our quarrels in our home and squash any beef we have with each other in a civil manner. Tears have been shed and some yelling but we never go too long without discussing it and coming to a agreement about what happened.

#2. Sometime I have to give in. Some arguments are my fault and sometimes they are hers. But there are those rare occasions where we both are right and wrong and in those moments I must take the bullet. It doesn't really matter who's fault it is, the end result is a stronger relationship. So if I must take the blame, then that is what I will do.

#3. Make decisions together. Major decisions that could be life changing, I must consult her first. I've even started asking her opinions on small issues to, giving her stake in my life. I had to realize it's no longer about me, it's about us.

#4. Money! Money! Money!- Many marriages end over money disputes. My wife makes significantly more money than I do. She can pay bills and have money left over to spend on whatever she wants, which I can't, but that doesn't make me less of a man. I pull my weight in other ways. And I've learned how to better manage my money so that I can contribute to our lives just as my wife does.

There are more things that have helped my marriage grow but these are the primary ones.

We've only been married a little over a year but we continue to work at our future. That's what keeps me going, our future. The one thing that I did realize is that marriage isn't much different than when we were just dating. The same commitment that I was suppose to have then, I have now. And I always ask myself, "If she did this to me, how would I feel?" That question keeps me from doing a lot of things. Keeps me on track to our future.

Neither of us are perfect, and we aren't too big to say sorry. As long as there is progress then we are on the right track. And now with a little baby girl in our lives we must work even harder to show her what true love really is.

To cut costs without jeopardizing the beauty of the room, alternate tall centerpieces with small arrangements. I love the soft pinks with the pure white vases. Did you peep the chandeliers at the top? Beautiful!

The vases the flowers are in can make a statement just as much as the actual arrangement. I love how the gold Candelabra, crystals and clear candle holders add a perfectly accent the flowers.

I love this centerpiece becuase it is simple but still breathtaking. The blue and purple uplighting also add a nice touch.

Centerpieces aren't limited to just the table. If you are going for long tables instead of the normal round tabels, utilize the ceiling space above the tables. Not only will it keep your guests talking, if also eliminates the fear of blocking their view.

Real Wedding: Sean + Jenae's Liriodendron Mansion Wedding

0771 Sean Kingston Holcomb-Jones married the love of his life Jenae' Elizabeth Manns on July 5, 2013 at the Liriodendron Mansion located in Bel Air, Maryland. The vision of the wedding was to maintain Jenae and Sean's authentic identity of creativity, be classic, and ensure their guest didn't just witness a wedding, but had a meaningful experience. Meet the couple and see more pictures of their big day after the break.

The first thing Jenae' set her sights on was spiral seating. She felt that circles feel much warmer than rigid rows, so when it came to seating, the spiral did the trick of wrapping Sean and Jenae' in a circle of Love of their family and friends. As an added bonus, it ensured that everyone got a good clear view of the wedding party as they came down the aisle.

0299 0498

Jenae has never been a flowery kind of girl so she decided not to carry a flowers. Instead she decided to decorate her arm with a larger than life bouquet of flowers going up the arm. On the wedding day everyone loved it!! The look was superb!

Adding to the creative theme, after the ceremony, fun lawn games like Tumble Tower (life sized Jenga), corn hole, and photo stands were available for the guest to enjoy during cocktail hour.

Instead of a traditional first dance song, Sean and Jenae' chose to dance to Neyo's Sexy Love, which was and always will be the couples song.

To offset some of the more costly wedding expenses, Andrea Small of Asburn, Va, who is a close friend of the Bride, served as the weddings creative designer and did all the wedding decor as DIY projects.

The outdoor/indoor wedding went off without a hitch and a great time was had by all. "Sean and I have never been a public-public couple so we really wanted our wedding to reflect who we were as people. My advice to any couples planning is to stay true to your authentic self -- break all the rules -- enlist the help of friends to cut cost -- and have lots of FUN!!" - Jenae

#WeddingWednesday Real Engagements: City Love- De'Shon and Alisha

jenkins1 How They Met:

Alisha and De’Shon first met in the summer of 2010 after a chance encounter with a mutual friend. Love did not spark then, but a year later, fate reunited the two and they began dating. Late last year, they welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Abigail into the world.

jenkins3

The Proposal:

During the Christmas break, Alisha and De’Shon decided to take their beautiful daughter to Chicago, where Alisha is from, to celebrate her first Christmas. After a chat with Alisha’s mom, about the Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower, and some research De’Shon knew The Skydeck would be the perfect location for the proposal. “The Skydeck sits on the 103rd floor of the 1,450 foot building and it extends over the street in a glass box that allows you to see directly under you to the street. The view as the city lit up was simply amazing and I couldn't think of a better place to propose with a better view, overlooking the very place she was born and raised”, says De’Shon.

“Her family was unaware of the proposal, other than her father. So to pull it off we had to be very sneaky. From sliding past security at the bottom floor without her seeing the ring on the scanning screen, thanks to their help, to the photographers being prepared to catch the precious moment. Before we stepped in the glass box, I notified one of the photographers of my plan. We all got in the box to take a family photo with her parents and siblings, and then we took a family photo with just us and our daughter. I told her I wanted to take a photo with just me and her. So after she handed our daughter to her mother and I handed my phone to her father for him to record, I got down on one knee as we prepared to take our photo and pulled the ring out asking her to marry me. After tears from her, her family, and many of the tourists waiting to take their photos she said yes!”

ring

The Ring:

The engagement ring was designed by GS Laboratories and features a natural diamond radiant cut surrounded by round brilliant cut diamonds. De’Shon chose this particular ring because, “I feel as if she's special, so she deserved something special and not common. I also don't know much about jewelry other than authenticity and appearance. The ring stuck out to me in the beginning and something about it just looked like it would be perfect on her finger. A wedding band wasn't created specifically for the ring, so when the jeweler showed me how it could be accented with a band on each side, giving it the look as if it was one ring with a custom design, I was sold.”

Congratulations to the happy couple! We at favored wish them a lifetime of love and blessings! If you need a wedding planner, we would love to assist you in planning your big day!!

Adam + Renee's Engagement Photos: Laughter Meets Love!

photo 2

Adam and Renee met in college at Salisbury University in the fall of 2003. Introduced by friends, the couple did not officially have their first date until February 2004. One thing I found so cute about their story was that Adam (being the jokester that he is) told Renee that he would fall in love with her because of her hair (which is gorgeous!!!) which she probably gets from being Chinese Jamaican. A great friendship grew and Adam continued to make Renee laugh and find more reasons to love her.

photo 5Since Renee is from Miami, the couple decided to make a trip and Adam made the necessary arrangements to pop the question! Adam found the perfect lighting + got down on one knee in front of Renee's family to propose. He said a few sweet things, she cried (a lot), her parents and brother screamed, and passersby clapped + cheered.

photo 4

These two are getting married this weekend in Rivera Maya, Mexico and wish nothing but the best for this beautiful couple! Congrats :)

#Favored Facts:

Adam is a Wine Enthusiast + loves to cook (check his intagram @ad_renaissance)!

Renee loves dance + photography!

Wedding Wednesday: The Amazing Proposal

proposal

This Proposal was very sweet. The future bride's favorite show is The Amazing Race, so her boyfriend spent two months preparing a proposal inspired by the show. He sent her on several challenges that involved a few of her friends all around New York City and ended of course with him. It is a little long, but I enjoyed the entire mini episode : ). Check out the video after the break!

Wedding Wednesday: Proposals

ginny and matt

I love love love watching wedding proposal videos. Occasionally I will run across one that is too cute not to share and the one we feature today is no different.

The guy in this video went over and beyond to make the proposal to his girlfriend one that she will never forget. Making the Movies jealous is the title and he definitely accomplished that. Grab your box of tissues and watch the video below.

In case you were wondering if their wedding was just as cute...it was...*grabs a fresh box of tissues*.
