Great Cake Decor

rainbow heart cake This rainbow heart cake is too cute! The original design (above) was created by the fabulous cake designer, Erin of Wild Orchid Baking.I am so excited to report that Erin just published a book because she has so many amazing cake designs (be sure to check out her super popular Facebook page!) Her book, Great Cake Decorating is filled with instructions and ideas for fabulous cakes. I have never tried using fondant but with her book, I definitely feel much more equipped to give it a go! Erin starts with the basics and explains all of the best tools to have on hand for making beautiful cakes. She then gets into more specific designs, tips and tricks!

#TipTuesday: Surviving Wedding Season

Attending a wedding can get to be expensive. Here are some tips to make it through wedding season without going broke :

1. Start saving early. If you're close with a couple who gets engaged, begin putting cash away then.

2. Don't forget to budget for the extra events, such as wedding showers and bachelor or bachelorette parties.

3. Look beyond the hotel that has been selected for guests. Other hotels may be cheaper. Shop around.

4. For out of town weddings, ask the engaged couple if they know anyone with a spare bedroom who would be willing to host you.

5. Ask other guests if they would be willing to buy a group gift.

6. If you plan to attend more than one wedding, try wearing the same outfit more than once.

7. If shopping on a bridal registry, search for the item on another site. It may be less expensive.

Beauty Styles for Any Wedding

photo Its wedding season all year around and we want to help you. Whether you’re walking down the aisle, or joining the newlyweds on their big day, one thing is for sure you have to look your best. Here are some elegant and timeless 10 beauty looks for any wedding from beauty experts at Harper’s Bazaar Magazine.

Undone Bun + Glam Eyes

hbz-wedding-beauty-Amber-Heard-0512-lgn

Work texture into your hair by twisting it around a curling iron and then pulling it back into a tousled, wispy bun. Pair with smoky eyes done in copper shadows and a peach lip for a look that works at an afternoon or evening ceremony.

Center Parted Sweep + Rosy Lips

 hbz-wedding-beauty-Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley-0512-lgn

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley strikes the right balance by slicking her hair half-back (trick: pat on serum for extra shine before flat-ironing) and swiping on a petal pink lipstick that’s just bright enough to draw attention without being too flashy.

Sleek Top Knot + Big Lashes

hbz-wedding-beauty-Kate-Hudson-0512-lgn

When the invitation is black tie formal, take your look up a notch. Gather hair into a high ponytail and wrap the length around the base, minimizing any frizz with a shot of hairspray. For big, fluttery lashes that last all night, apply a lash primer to build volume before coating on super dark mascara.

Cascading Waves + Silvery Eyes

hbz-wedding-beauty-Freida-Pinto-0512-lgn

For a soft and feminine look like Freida Pinto’s, mist on shine spray before blowing hair out with a large round brush, twisting back a section above your ear and pinning in place at the nape. Choose a mercury eye shadow with a hint of sparkle to catch the light.

Breezy Chignon + Bold Brows

hbz-wedding-beauty-Camilla-Belle-0512-lgn

To capture the wind-swept texture look, spray dry shampoo through strands and lightly back-comb pieces around the crown. Then channel an Elizabeth Taylor glamour moment with dark, well-groomed brows.

Retro Roll + Radiant Skin

hbz-wedding-beauty-Reese-Witherspoon-0512-lgn

Reese Witherspoon goes classic Hollywood with a sculpted look that still feels modern, thanks to the deep side-part. After applying gel and molding hair into a wave in front, coil up the back and secure with a U-shaped pin. Keep skin fresh and matte with translucent powder to avoid any excess shine in photos.

Sultry Side Braid + Defined Eyes

hbz-wedding-beauty-Joan-Smalls-0512-lgn

Joan Smalls dresses up a simple fish tail braid by sweeping it to the side and lining her eyes on top and bottom in aquamarine. The end result is striking but not too over the top.

Slick Updo + Bright Lip

hbz-wedding-beauty-Emily-Blunt-0512-lgn

A wrap-around shape can transform a basic updo into something spectacular. Minimize frizz and maintain control by patting on ample amounts of clear styling gel. And a bright pink lip lends a youthful glow to your skin, so don't be shy about it.

Bejewled Headband + Nude Lips

hbz-wedding-beauty-Jaime-King-0512-lgn

Slipping on a statement hair accessory elevates simple waves. Mist on shine spray to add an extra touch of luxury and go for a nude lip that won't compete for attention but keeps you looking polished.

High Updo + Monotone Makeup

hbz-wedding-beauty-Scarlett-Johansson-0512-lgn

Loose volume is what makes updo so appealing. Work mousse through damp hair and blow-dry upside down to build body before raking hair into a bun or twist in back. Contour your eyes with liner and shadows in different variations of the same color for an understated but elegant effect.

Real {Texas} Wedding: Tiffany & Her African Prince Charming!

Tiffany San Antonio Wedding12

There's something about bringing two cultures together in a marriage. Like any other relationship it takes alot of love, patience and understanding. A friend of mine told me about a wedding she attending a couple months ago and said that it was beautiful to see two completely different backgrounds unite. The bride is African-American and the groom is from Sudan. Here are some pictures from their intimate wedding in San Antonio, TX. The Bride, Tiffany said "I choose to keep the feeling romantic, vintage, warm, and celebratory". Her wedding planner, Sandy Colon of Elegance by Sandy in San Antonio also created her gorgeous brooch bouquet.

Tiffany San Antonio Wedding16

How beautiful is this bridal brooch bouquet? I love how the design mixes different styles and colors without clashing.

Tiffany San Antonio Wedding3

In the vintage theme, the couple incorporated old jewelry boxes as center pieces with simple lavender roses. The tables were surrounded by brown wooden Chivari chairs which gave it a bit of a timeless feel. Each guest was given a favor bag with the note "Welcome to Our Wedding". Overall the decor was very simple but went with

Love the personalized coaster cards on each table setting. It's a great way to add detail without spending too much!

Bling Bling! Never can go wrong with some sparkly wedding shoes or the bride's gorgeous wedding rings below! Brides make sure to work with your photographers to get all of your favorite shots on a list so that every detail is pictured for you to have and to hold after your special day!

In the United States, a groom's cake is a wedding tradition typically associated with the American South. While a wedding cake may often be decorated in white and light in texture or color, the groom's cake can take a variety of forms, many incorporating chocolate similar to the one above. The theme of the cake table was bride and groom; from both cakes and the adorable matching tuxedo and wedding gown champagne bottle covers!

Congrats to the bride and groom! Your dreams came true and you had a wonderful wedding. I love this moment of the wedding when the two enter the room and take their positions on the dance floor, the music starts and they enjoy their first steps as husband and wife while getting lost in each other's eyes!

OWN & Tyler Perry D.C. Preview Party at B.Smith's

OWN Preview Party3 Last month I had the pleasure of working with one of my favorite D.C. Publicists, Candice Nicole PR and 135 St Agency for the D.C. preview party for Tyler Perry’s new scripted series “The Haves & Have Nots” and “Love Thy Neighbor,” on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network.

OWN Preview Party6

Favored by Yodit Events coordinated the floral decor for the event. The client wanted something simple and fresh within a reasonable budget and thanks to my good friends at Fluer we were able to make it happen just in time for Actresses Tika Sumpter (HHN) and Patrice Lovely (LTN) to sign autographs and meet and greet with guests.

The evening was filled with wine and cocktails and a quick Q&A at one of my favorite D.C. landmark establishments, B. Smith’s Restaurant located in The Union Station (Great place for weddings and large private events too!).

Get Your Keys Organized During #Snowquester

Color code keys 1.) Color Your Keys

Hate taking forever to find your house, car, office keys when its snowing? Take 5 Minutes while indoors to color code your keys with nail polish to save time and get organized.

Here’s how:

1. Remove your keys from their chain.

2. Select your nail polish colors and decide which key should be paired with each color. You can even try some clever color associations. Is your front door red? Paint your house key cherry. Have a garden shed? Paint it green for your garden. Pool key? Blue for water!

3. Paint a layer of nail polish over the top portion of your keys. If you go over an outline by accident, use a toothpick to remove any excess polish.

4. Let your nail polish completely dry and then apply a second coat until you can’t see the metal of the key underneath.

5. Once the keys are dry, put them back to your keychain, and that’s it!
